Hair perfume is the most unnecessary thing I now refuse to live without

The most useful thing you’ll learn this summer? Your hair holds scent longer than your skin does

Sometimes a purchase feels irrational until you use it enough to justify it. This is the kind of logic that I, a self-proclaimed “beauty person”, use right before spending money. I didn’t think I needed hair perfume, but I bought Moroccanoil’s hair fragrance mist because I already liked the smell of the brand’s Treatment Oil, and it didn’t take long to convince myself this was a practical purchase. And I’m happy to report it has easily been my best purchase of 2026, and it actually did change my life a little.

It might seem excessive in theory, but it’s less so in practice. Here’s the actual case for it: you know how you walk out of a sizzler dinner smelling like you marinated in the place? That’s because your hair holds scent longer than your skin does. Which means a good hair mist will likely outlast your EDP and carry you through the day. Not only do hair perfumes sit lighter and last long, but most also cost a third to half of what the EDP version of the same fragrance would—which is another thing you can tell yourself while adding to cart.

Of late, the category has also gotten more interesting with homegrown brands entering the space and niche houses expanding their hair ranges. And just last month, Bella Hadid also just launched Ôrebella hair and body mists. Of course, it all makes sense when it’s summer and smelling good all day is the brief.

Below, see our edit of the best hair perfumes to buy right now:

01

Brumes Du Maroc hair and body fragrance mist, Moroccanoil, ₹3,600

The one that started this obsession. The Moroccanoil signature scent—warm amber, magnolia, a little woody—is the kind you can’t quite place but keep noticing, which is the highest compliment a fragrance can receive. Argan oil and Vitamin E are built into the formula, so it works in the background to condition the hair while doing the fragrance thing.

Chandra hair and body perfume mist, Indē Wild, ₹1,299

Named after the moon, the scent earns it: a soft, grounding fruity floral that’s sensual without being overpowering. The brand uses sugarcane-derived alcohol, which they specifically flag as non-drying, so your strands are left feeling good too. At this price, it’s the most convincing argument for the category for anyone still on the fence. Their Surya variant leans brighter if you want something more morning-facing.

St. Barts hair & body mist, Ouai, ₹3,375

With dragonfruit, orange blossom, tuberose, and musk, this smells the way a summer holiday feels, so if you can’t take one right now, at least your hair can. Tropical and light enough to wear over whatever you’ve already got on.

Find Comfort body & hair fragrance mist, Rare Beauty, ₹3,400

Selena Gomez has brewed some magic with this lemon zest, cashmere wood, and tonka bean combo. It’s soft enough for everyday use, while being interesting enough for people to actually notice. Biotin, niacinamide, and peach flower extract are in the formula, which means it’s doing something for the hair beyond just scenting it. The 360-degree bottle sprays sideways and upside-down, which is very useful when you’re trying to reach the underlayers of your hair in a rush.

Chance hair mist, Chanel, ₹6,900

Chance is Chanel’s more spontaneous fragrance—pink pepper, jasmine, amber patchouli—a little spicy, a little unexpected. In hair mist form, it carries the same energy as the EDP but lighter, which is honestly the better way to wear it when it’s 35 degrees out.

J’adore hair mist, Dior, ₹6,000

The maximalist option, the J’adore hair mist is a gentler entry into the same territory as the EDP form, with ylang ylang, Damascus rose, and Grasse jasmine turned down just enough for the summer. Unambiguously floral, unambiguously luxurious, it’s the kind of fragrance that takes up space in a room.

Hair & Everywhere fragrance, Antinorm, ₹2,499

Antinorm’s Hair & Everywhere comes with one white case and three scent pods. Pick your mood, click it in, and switch whenever. The formula is 97.5 per cent natural, alcohol-free, essential-oil-powered and gentle on both hair and skin. There’s Brewtally Honest (coffee accord, iris butter, toasted almond), Bad Beach (coconut water, jasmine sambac, vanilla Madagascar), Calm Me Maybe (green tea accord, jasmine sambac, cashmere wood). It’s basically the kind of product that makes you wonder why everything isn’t designed this way.

Hydra weatherproof hair fragrance spray, Cotril, ₹1,700

Italian-made, but this one might as well have been designed for an Indian summer. Cotril made this specifically with humidity and heat in mind. The “weatherproof” claim is about the fragrance holding through a day that would otherwise defeat it. It also gives hair a healthy-looking finish—a win-win.

Gypsy Water hair perfume, Byredo, ₹7,800

Crafted with bergamot, lemon, pine needle, juniper, sandalwood, amber, and vanilla, this smells like being outdoors at night at an upscale resort. If you’re going to splurge on one thing on this list, make it this.

Fleur de Peau hair mist, Diptyque, ₹7,200

Fleur de Peau means “skin flower” and the scent is exactly that—iris, musk, ambrette seed, pink peppercorn. Very clean, very skin-close. It might be the subtlest pick on this list, but it’ll leave you feeling powdery fresh all day long.

Golden Brulee body and hair perfume mist, Ôrebella, ₹3,400 approx

The newest thing on this list. Bella Hadid, who has consistently good taste in most things, just expanded her brand Ôrebella into hair and body mists last month, and the Golden Brulee variant is the most delicious-sounding thing on this list. With plum, tonka bean, vanilla, and coconut water, it sounds good enough to drink. The bottle is a dual-layer situation where you shake fragrance oils and botanical waters together before spraying.
