Triptii Dimri is having a manifestation moment

It’s a Monday afternoon. Triptii Dimri has just spent her morning indulging in a leisurely breakfast and swim. “No Monday blues today,” she beams over a video call, logging in from Goa dressed in a baggy pink T-shirt, her curls still damp from her swim. If she’s wearing any makeup, I can’t tell. She has a beautiful rosy flush on her cheeks and lips. The look is less “actor on a break” and more “person who has figured how to opt out when required”. It’s a useful skill, especially when your career is accelerating in very public ways. Case in point: she’s about to join Victoria’s Secret as its newest ambassador, a full-circle moment that began, as many things do, with a teenage dream.

Victoria’s Secret is on a roll right now. After reviving its much-talked-about fashion shows, the brand has also been tapping figures across industries that embody its shift from a singular ideal (cue the skinny models in lingerie) to a spectrum of identities (high-achieving athletes, entrepreneurs, pop stars). In 2023, the brand launched a collaboration with tennis player Naomi Osaka and it just tapped WNBA all-star Angel Reese for its ‘Season of Strapless’ campaign.

Below, the newly minted ambassador talks us through her current state of mind on the cusp of the big announcement.

What did you do yesterday?

It wasn’t a typical day, actually; I came to Goa. Every time I get a little break, I decide to go someplace nice where I can just be away from the noise and people. So, I just relaxed, went for a swim, and went for a bike ride, which is one of my most favourite things to do in Goa. I interacted with some locals, ate at this new restaurant called Mister Merchant’s, and wrapped up my day like that—with amazing food and conversations.

What time do you go to bed?

I usually go to bed very late. When I’m in Bombay, I try to sleep by 12 am, but it always goes up to 1 or 2 because I always end up watching something on Netflix. But yesterday, I went to bed by 11:30, which is not early early, but for me it was.

Have you watched anything interesting of late?

I just finished the fourth season of Bridgerton and loved it. I have a long list of shows that I’ve got from my friends. So, I’m looking to watch a nice thriller now. If you have any recommendations, please throw them in.

Have you watched All Her Fault? It’s on Prime Video.

No, I haven’t seen that. I’ll give it a try. Thank you so much!

How do you usually start your mornings?

I’m not an early riser and I like my mornings slow. I like to have an hour to myself before I get on with my day, have work conversations—or any conversations, actually. I have three pets: a dog and two cats. So, I spend the first few minutes of my morning playing with them. These days I’m trying to cut down on my screen time in the morning. Earlier, I would wake up and just get on my phone. But now, I’m deliberately trying to not touch my phone for at least an hour. I’ve read somewhere that when there’s a lot of information that you receive first thing in the morning, it messes with your brain cells. Journaling is something that I used to do earlier, but I’ve fallen out of practise. I think I’m gonna go back to it now.

What do you usually journal? Is it just planning out your day or a diary entry?

I don’t like to plan things, because nothing goes as per plan. But I like to write down my thoughts and things that I’m grateful for. A friend gifted me this journal from Intelligent Change. It’s beautiful because it asks very important questions. First thing when you wake up, what are you grateful for? What is the first thought that comes to your mind? And there are questions for nighttime as well, because they say the thoughts that you go to bed with enter your subconscious while you’re sleeping. They’re small things, of course, but I think it makes a huge difference.

Do you remember the first time you came across Victoria’s Secret?

It was a fashion show clip that I saw on the internet. My sister introduced me to it and I remember watching the show with her. We both had our jaws wide open because we were so mesmerised: the energy, the lights, the confidence with which the models owned the ramp. We were quite young, but I think it’s a core memory for both of us.

You attended the show last year. What did you enjoy most?

Everything about the show was perfect, but if I have to pick one, I think it would be their confidence because it’s something that I’ve struggled with initially in my career and I still do at times. Watching them own the stage as if this was their moment, their place—it just felt very, very empowering.

You’re a VS brand ambassador now. What was your initial reaction?

It was a call that I received from Zena [Kotwal, her manager] and I remember being very excited and very nervous. It’s something you always dream of. When I was a teenager, I wanted to own a piece of Victoria’s Secret. I wanted to have a perfume bottle just to show off to my friends. And now that I get a chance to represent the brand, it just feels very, very surreal. The first call I made was to my sister and we also celebrated: she cut a cake for me. So, it was a very, very special day. After that I went to New York City for the show.

Do you remember your first VS purchase?

It was a perfume bottle. Bombshell. It looked very elegant. And the fragrance is, of course, very soft and feminine. Personally, I’m attracted to fragrances that are floral and fruity. It just makes me feel more like me.

What’s something you learned recently that blew your mind?

I have recently started practising breath work. I had a breath work session in Goa yesterday with one of the most amazing teachers and I just felt alive. I felt I was not breathing properly all this while. It just elevates your mood, makes you feel lighter, and you feel more in control of your emotions. Of course, meditation does that too. Combining it with meditation is purely magical and something I would love to continue.

What does the rest of your day look like?

After this, I’m gonna grab lunch and then go for a bike ride. I’ll hang out with my friends, catch up with my family. And then tonight, I’m planning to wind down a little early, because that’s another habit that I’m trying to build. Let’s see how good I get at that.

What does tomorrow look like for you, both literally and figuratively?

Tomorrow literally looks the same as today. I’ll exercise, do some work, and balance it out with my leisure time since I have a few days off from shooting. Figuratively, tomorrow for me—I would like to believe—is full of possibilities. There are a lot of things moving forward in my career and I’m excited to see how it unfolds. Tomorrow looks bright and happy.

That sounds amazing. We should keep putting it out there.

That’s what I do every day. I am a strong believer in manifestations. I feel everything that has happened in my life is purely through hard work and manifestation. I think I also manifested Victoria’s Secret when I was watching it on screen with my sister. So yeah, I’m a true believer.
